In Turin, a group of young Iranian women come together around Homa, a women’s football team, united by the need to feel part of a community. They play out of passion, to build relationships and to feel free. In Iran, they were forced to cover themselves and live under rules that severely restrict women’s rights; in Italy, they rebuild an everyday life far from home. Over the course of a year, between training and tournaments, they are on a journey toward self-determination and participate in Balon Mundial 2025, Turin’s long-running tournament for migrant communities. But suddenly, news of the war breaks into their lives: the distance from their homeland turns into fear for their families, tension within the community, and a painful questioning of what it means to belong to a wounded country.
Director's Statement
Nowruz means new day. In Persiani, the word marks the beginning of the new year and coincides with the arrival of spring. In the film, however, this new day is not a promise, but a desire. It is the desire of women in the Iranian diaspora to imagine a future without having to give up their own history.
