1978. The year of the three Popes and a Socialist president. Aldo Chimenti and his wife Marisa move from a village in southern Italy to Turin. There, Marisa, a "career woman", devotes herself body and soul to her work with the police, adhering to the philosophy of Mark, hero of a police series. Aldo, a staunch Catholic divides his time between his job as an accountant and the parish rock choir run by the wild Don Luigi, a hippie priest. When Aldo meets Biagio and Caimano, the encounter turns his peaceful life around. Biagio is a hardened sinner, a former Communist and an idler, in permanent conflict with his wife Hélena. Caimano, Biagio's "only friend", is a naïve man who seems to live on another planet. Aldo becomes friends with Biagio and Caimano. He is also motivated by Don Luigi's words: "Let no man part those whom God has united". The three of them realize that they share a dream that goes beyond all forms of ideology and politics: "making money". And so they find themselves caught up as investigators in an inquiry into a soccer gambling ring that could cost them their freedom but, at the same time, allow Marisa to obtain the promption that she longs for...
