In 1976, when he was 19 years old, Massimo Carlotto was accused of a murder for which he was only meant to bear witness. Massimo Carlotto was to spend 6 years in prison, 5 years on the run and was to undergo 11 trials. His legal odyssey was to last 18 years and ended in 1993, when he was pardonned by the President of Italy. His story is known, in international circles, as "The Carlotto Case".
