After spending four years behind bars, Tony is allowed out on day-release and is hired by the cheese producer Cimarosa. He soon notices the difficult situation of the owners: Alfonso, the son of the dairyman, has borrowed money and is being blackmailed by the usurers and the camorra, while Bianca, the niece, who is the true director of the dairy, feels that the dairy will be closed down soon and looks at the convict with a mixture of fear and suspicion. Tony tries to stay out of the problem, but when the usurer starts threatening he can’t hold back. Without anyone knowing, and running the risk of losing his benefits as a day-release convict, he does what he can to defend the dairy, his friend and his job.
