What is Rome, Italy’s Capital City, today? What has it become? Who lives in it, dreams it and measures it with their footsteps or by looking out at the chaotic traffic through the windows of car and buses, one of the thousands of faces that are also packed into the subways and trams. “People of Rome”, Ettore Scola’s latest film, is the director’s bittersweet tribute to a metropolis capable of sheltering all those who were born in the city, as well as those who have chosen it as their adopted home, with a mixture of warmth and unprincipled indifference.
