Maria Grande takes care more of her Bosnian neighbors than of her three children. Santino, her “baby”, takes advantage of his mother's distraction to pull off small heists with his two buddies so they move to Miami: land of relaxation and bliss. But Maria involuntarily shows up and wrecks Santino's plans. Meanwhile, Michael and Lucia know that their kid brother deals with local gangsters and they will do anything to make their mother see Santino's true color. Maria asks her dead husband for advice, but he criticizes Santino, too. Giovanni, a friend of the family, visiting from Italy, manages to distract Maria from her family quarrelling. Giovanni's nostalgic stories about Italy awaken in Maria the thought of a “new” life. So when her children are about to shed family blood, Giovanni comes up with an unpredictable way to settle family hostility and to change Maria's life and Santino's, too
