Trieste is the city where two thirty year olds, a ‘He’ and ‘She’ move about. In the parlour of a prison, over a game of scrabble, they exchange stories about missed encounters. From the encased letters on the board , chapters of their past seem to unfold. For most of their lives they have unknowingly lived side by side, sharing only a turtle, a token of adolescent love.
They will find themselves in an operating room where ‘She’ is the surgeon and ‘He’ is the patient.
After spending time together, objects, photographs and unfinished sentences show them to have had similar childhoods, but when after many careful decisions, she turns and sees in him the right choice for her heart, ‘He’ prefers to take refuge in the dream he has nurtured all his life and rejects her. After she is attacked by a dock worker, his aggressive reaction. The game of scrabble in the parlour is now over. She puts away the board in the box and walks away. To wait for him?
