Recently separated Gilberto is forty. Paolina is only sixteen, but madly in love with him! As she writes in "all the language of the world", on slips of paper that Gilberto finds everywhere. Paolina even threatens to kill him should she discover he has another girl. And he does! Beautiful, thirty-six year-old Margherita, who works as an animal psychologist. Then there is Cateno, Gilberto's stuttering brother, who never minds his own business. As he tells the latest plot twist in his brother's life to his friends at the launderette, their jaws quite often drop in wonder. The only certainty left by the tumultuous lives of the different characters is this: the paths taken by the heart are often treacherous, trying and even ridiculous.
