This film is inspired by a true story and an Italian legend.
What was it like to be autistic in 1923 and what is it like today? The protagonist of the story is an eleven-year-old girl, affected by Autism Spectrum Syndrome.
"We are not different, it's the others who are all the same".
What does it mean to be autistic today?
And what did it mean to be autistic a hundred years ago?
Fear of Numbers is a film about the beauty of diversity. An unpublished and original story of autistic syndrome through the lifes of Anna and Maria, two beautiful little girls that fate unites beyond time. A delicate and profound story on the theme of autism, through a very intense period drama.
We wanted to tell how children affected by autism syndrome were often treated a hundred years ago and how, instead, they are approached today.
An art house short film that alternates scenes set in the twenties of the last century, when these "different" children were also taken to the exorcist, with others set in our historical period, where these children can be followed as they deserve.

DIRECTOR'S NOTES:
Fear of Numbers is my (temporary) return to the language of short cinema after having shot, accompanied and followed in the distribution, nine feature films, as a director, in the last twenty years and after having made dozens of works as a director of photography.
The screenplay of this "little gem", convinced me to return to shooting a short film, remaining tied to my formal and rigorous cinematographic grammar.
The result is a powerful and aesthetic short, to which I am very attached, decidedly different from the usual things.
