For those behind the making of Checosamanca, it was not enough just to "look for new directors". It was more about the invention of a creative process to build a story, trying to "put together a film" with its authors and editor.

It started with a group of 50-60 people chosen after a series of meetings. Word was also spread around schools, festivals and training centres. It wasn't a general appeal, more like a "call to arms" for the best. Everyone was asked to submit one written page, a story to tell in 10-15 minutes using a camera. A total of 72 very good stories came in. It was not easy to make choices, but in the end the selection boiled down to these directors...
