Julie, an innocent young woman, meets a mysterious man, who turns out to be the famous American novelist Max Oliver. Devastated by the recent death of his wife – the beautiful dancer Lucia Giordano, who’s the subject of Oliver’s latest book A Woman – Max is rescued out of his darkness by Julie. He falls in love with her and immediately invites her to live with him in his house in Italy. Warned against the idea by her closest friend Natalie, Julie goes with him anyway, while nursing her fear of being overshadowed by the memory of Max’s dead wife. Julie’s insecurity quickly turns into paranoia: the more she learns about Lucia Giordano the more she obsesses about her, almost to the point of madness.
