The common and rhetorical conviction that man, as he grows old, matures into serenity and wisdom thereby bettering him to a point where he becomes a good man is false. Human beings having crested the peak of their existence begin the inexorable and inevitable decline towards death and in this slow and frightening slide fear grows, dominating, transforming, and rendering him vulnerable, egotistical and cowardly.
Paradoxically, it is in the hands of these men that privilege and power lie. All power, from political to economic. Power that other younger men, impatient to take their place, avidly aspire to.
It is this atavistic and natural conflict of the generations where power has always been set firmly in place, that inspires this film, a cinematographic adaptation of the splendid novel, “Diario de la Guerra del Cerdo”, the enormously successful effort of the great Argentinean writer Adolfo Bioy Casares.
