The search for a place where to put down roots. Abruzzo, the homeland, wreaked by a violent earthquake that erased all memories, uprooting an identity that now seems like an illusion. Or Switzerland, devastated by another kind of destruction (programmed reconstruction), which erases the traces of the past and seems painless in the face of people’s apparent indifference.
DIRECTOR'S NOTES
“Homesickness is a feeling that is sometimes hard to bear, but which also gives us the strength to go forward. I used the letters my parents wrote each other over the 1960s to make the movie; as I was reading them, I understood that for us being away from our hometown gives meaning to our life, allowing us to imagine a place where we would like to live, but which also prevents us from settling down. What’s our place? Where is our real home? We live in constant bewilderment between two worlds that don’t belong to us. We aren’t allowed to stay. We will continue arriving and then leaving again and again.”
