A unique, perhaps unrepeatable moment in history: two living popes canonizing two popes of the past; the 3D television cameras that for the first time filmed and televised the event live throughout the world; an atmosphere both electric and mystical. An evocative journey in the memories of that day, but not only that: within this account there is room, lots of room, for the unexpected. Such is the case of Dario Fo, the “atheist and Marxist” Nobel Prize winner who praises Pope Francis in a long statement after the curtain falls, on the event an intimate personal commentary on a Pope who has managed to make him “fall in love.”
DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT:
I had the honor of following the live 3D broadcast of the historic canonization on 27 April 2014 as a director for Sky Italia. For the first time a papal ceremony was aired live in 3D, and not just on television but in over a thousand movie theaters around the world. That day deserved to be handed down to future generations, with its historic importance underscored. The idea was to make it a story, not just a detailed report of events.
