The 14th edition of the Italian Screenings took place in Naples in the first weekend of July. It is about the only marketplace entirely dedicated to the Italian Cinema, that takes place in the city that brought good luck to the Italian movie productions already in the past.
This year thirty-one movies have been presented, of which nineteen have been world premiere.
Sixteen the World Sales Companies and one hundred the Distribution Companies that came from Asia, North and South America, Europe, Middle East and Oceania. The number of deals that have been already made or are about to, is closed to one hundred.
This is an extraordinary number, that helps to understand how the Italian Cinema is becoming one of the protagonist of the international audiovisual industry abroad.
Because of the substantial number of movies sold, it is complicated to create a specific profile of this year edition of the Italian Screenings: there is an eclecticism in the interest shown in the movies’ genre and titles, the buyers’ nationality, and so on. Art film but also comedies are sold, movies are exported in the States but also in Russia.
The Italian Screenings are organized by Filmitalia department of Istituto Luce Cinecittà, in collaboration with Unefa, the Italian Association of Film World Sales, that considers this event an essential appointment for the promotion of the Italian Cinema abroad.
