Mostra de Cinema Italià de Barcelona

6th Edition: December 15th - 19th

Mostra de Cinema Italià de Barcelona

The sixth edition of the Mostra de Cinema Italià de Barcelona comes back to Barcelona from the 15th to the 19th of December, promoting the best of the Italian Cinema with a strong selection of ten titles from the movies that more are influencing the Italian imaginary of this current year. Inaugurate the Manetti Bros. with the Neapolitan musical that won over Venezia, Love and Bullets. Marco Manetti will attend the opening night at the Cines Verdi, receiving the CIS de Honor Award that every year it is assigned to a figure of some weight in the scene of the Italian contemporary cinema.
What follows are three movies that, as this last one, reveal the interest shown in Italy about the Neapolitan world: Cinderella The Cat, an animation movie about a futuristic Camorra and second feature by Alessandro Rak; the movie Crater, a narrative feature set outside the criminal scene by the two documentary directors Silvia Luzi and Luca Bellino who just won the Great Jury Price at the Tokyo Film Festival; Equilibrium by Vincenzo Marra that with his a hundred and ten long shots narrates the fight of a priest from Campania against the Camorra. We move from the South to talk about the organized crime in Rome with the movie Tainted Souls by Matteo Botrugno and Daniele Coluccini. We travel then outside of Italy with the two first features movies Where the Shadows Fall by Valentina Pedicini about the attack against the Roma Community in Switzerland, and the comedy Easy by Andrea Magnani where a character absolutely outside of the lines reaches Ukraine to return a coffin. We then travel back to Italy with the brilliant comedy by Simone Godano, Wife & Husband where an exchange of identity between the two protagonists creates a series of hilarious vicissitudes. For these eight titles, all the directors will be in Barcelona to present and promote their movies. We continue with Stories of Love that Cannot Belong to This World by Francesca Comencini, whose title explains already how the movie talks about the inability of loving, and it will be precisely the main actress Lucia Mascino who will take part of the event to present it. Closing the selection and the Festival, we have Fortunata by Sergio Castellitto where a woman fights every day with a hard reality and that will be presented in Barcelona by the actor Edoardo Pesce, antagonist of Fortunata and crucial character in the drama of the movie.
Pecularity of this edition it is that out of these ten titles, four already have a Spanish distributor and that they will premiere in occasion of the Mostra de Cinema Italià de Barcelona.
A special section is dedicated to the short movies of the Sic@Sic projected at the Venice International Critics’ Week. Seven short movies very different from each other by authors that didn’t shot a feature movie yet, compete for the Short Award of 2.000 € that will be assigned by a Jury presided over Dimas Luis Rodríguez Gallego and composed by Valentina Pedicini and Toni Benages.
This event is inserted in a significant time for the history of Catalonia, but we believe that the movie industry, the quality cinema, is always herald of unequivocal values. For this reason, also this year, we want to bring to Barcelona the best of the Italian cinema.
The event is organized by Filmitalia-Istituto Luce Cinecittà in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute, the Italian Consulate, the CSCI and the support of local sponsors.
