Cinecitta, the Istituto Italiano di cultura in London and Ciné Lumière team up to celebrate women filmmakers from Italy.
If only a handful of women reached international recognition in the twentieth century, a new ‘wave’ of Italian female directors has started to garner prestigious awards from major film festivals in the past decade.
The Wave is a festival aiming to showcase the outstanding fiction and documentary films of directors such as Alice Rohrwacher, Emma Dante or Chiara Bellosi, along with tributes to the pioneers who paved the way and an homage to the late actor Monica Vitti, the “Queen of Italian cinema”.
Each feature-length film will also be preceded by rarely seen short animation films directed by women as well.
See Ciné Lumière website for full program.
