Locarno 2004: enormous success for Private

Private, first work by young documentary filmmaker, Saverio Costanzo, was screened yesterday at the Locarno Film Festival. Besides the Italian-Swiss coproduction Promised Land, by Michele Beltrami, it is the only Italian film in competition, and received a big round of applause from the screening public.

“We were happy to witness a full house in the Sala fevi, yesterday afternoon in Locarno”- commented Giovanni Galoppi, president of AIP - Filmitalia, - “and to be present, promote and give support to the Italian film in competition, Private by Saverio Costanzo, coproduced by Istituto Luce, which at the end of the screening, received a standing ovation, nominated by this public, as a future success.

We hope that in these particular tense times on the International front, stories like the one told in this film, are an omen for major brotherhood amongst all nations.

It is with brilliant young directors like Costanzo and many others from his generation that the "new" Italian cinema, which has already given us so much gratification, can surely return to the glory days, of the great masters of the past.”
