Italy at the European Film Awards 2005 The substantial selection of Italian films in competition at the European Film Awards, equivalent to the European Oscars, includes Alla luce del sole by Roberto Faenza, La febbre by Alessandro D’Alatri, The Life that I Want by Giuseppe Piccioni, Private by Saverio Costanzo and Saimir by Francesco Munzi (competing for the European Film Awards Discovery – Prix Fassbinder).
Competing for the European Film Awards Documentary – Prix Arte and representing Italy, is the documentary Viva Zapatero! by Sabina Guzzanti, which was shown as a surprise screening at the Venice International Film Festival.
The coproductions include Crimen Perfecto by Alex de la Iglesia, Hidden by Michael Haneke and Hotel Rwanda by Terry George.
Director Paolo Sorrentino and actor Toni Servillo who starred in The Consequences of Love are up for the Best Director and Best Actor prizes in “The Jameson People Choice Awards”, along with Licia Maglietta who starred in Agatha and the Storm by Silvio Soldini, and competes for the Best Actress award.
Adriana Chiesa Di Palma, C.E.O. of AIP-Filmitalia and EFA Board member since 2000, claims : “ The European Film Academy and the European Film Awards are a vehicle of great prestige for the promotion of Italian cinema in the world, and I could not be more pleased to see this year’s selection of Italian cinema so diverse and of such high quality.”
