360° of Italian Cinema at the Toronto International Film Festival 2006

The up-coming edition of the Toronto International Film Festival, by now among the elite of International film festivals will be particularly significant for our cinema. As a result of the film selections organised by Filmitalia which were held in Rome for Piers Handling, a daring choice of very diverse titles were selected to be presented in Toronto.
From the unusual and dream like trip from Sicily to the The Golden Door by Emanuele Crialese, this year’s Special Presentation, to a study of the Orient in The Missing Star by Gianni Amelio presented in the important Masters section with Nanni Moretti’s The Caiman, to the revelation of a new artist, Marina Spada, presenting As the Shadow in Discovery.The section Real to Reel, a prestigious area dedicated to the best in non-fiction cinema around the globe, clearly shows the potential and revelations our cinematography has to offer, with Davide Ferrario presenting Primo Levi's Journey and Vincenzo Marra with his film The Session is Open.
Among the Italian shorts we find Seascape # 1 night, China Shenzhen 05 by Olivo Barbieri in the section Wavelengths.
Also featured are several co-productions : Born and Bred by Pablo Trapero and Trance by Teresa Villaverde (Contemporary World Cinema), The Wind that Shakes the Barley by Ken Loach and Private Fears in Public Places by Alain Resnais (Masters) and L’homme de sa vie by Zabou Breitman (Special Presentation).
