Yesterday, the Buenos Aires International Festival of Independent Films (3-15 aprile 2007) began its 9th edition.
Considered one of the major film festivals in South America, the festival this year presents around 300 titles from all over the world. Italy’s presence is substantial and is represented by 8 titles which include Giovanni Davide Maderna’s Schopenhauer competing in the International Competition “Cine del Futuro”. The section “Panorama Careers “ features: The Session is Open by Vincenzo Marra, The Family Friendby Paolo Sorrentino, Quei loro incontri by Danièle Huillet, Jean-Marie Straub, The Wedding Director by Marco Bellocchio,and Giuseppe Bertolucci’s film Pasolini prossimo nostro in the section “Panorama Methods”. A “Special Focus” dedicated to documentary filmmaker Leonardo di Costanzo presents 3 of his films:
Odessa co-directed by Bruno Oliviero, A Scuola and “Prove di Stato”. Italy, thanks to the support of Filmitalia, is represented by a delegation of directors and journalists including Giovanni Davide Maderna, Leonardo di Costanzo, Bruno Oliviero, Vincenzo Marra already a winner in 2002 for his first feature” Tornando a Casa”, producers Maurizio Tedesco (Baires Produzioni) and Rosanna Seregni (Sintra Film), journalist as well as Director of Venice Days Fabio Ferzetti, Alessandro Signetto President of the Doc/it Association, Gaetano Blandini, Head of the Italian Film Board, Silvana Tucci and Griselda Guerrasio from Filmitalia. Francesco di Pace (Venice Critics Week) is a member of the International Jury, while critic Vincenzo Bugno is a member of the Argentinian Competition Jury. The delegates will respectively be presenting their films as well as taking part in several Q & A’s organized during this major Argentinian event.
