The 60th Festival of Locarno from August 1-11th will feature a significant number of Italian films in the entire public programme presented to the International public at this year’s edition.
Over 40 Italian titles have been selected : beginning with two World Premiere screenings in the International Competition Fuori dalle corde by debutant Fulvio Bernasconi and Haïti Chérie by Claudio Del Punta and >Imatra by Corso Salani and first feature by Vittorio Rifranti with Tagliare le parti in grigio, to be presented in the Filmmakers of the Present Competition. Two Italian evenings in Piazza Grande, with the world premiere of Alina Marazzi’s latest work, Vogliamo anche le rose and fresh from Cannes My Brother is an only Child by Daniele Luchetti. Representing Italy in Competition dedicated to Short films we find Dora by Sergio Basso.
The section Ici & Ailleurs will present three world premieres Io non sono un moderato! by Andrea Nobile, The Weeping Statue by Elisabetta Sgarbi e I promessi sposi by Massimo d’Anolfi and Martina Parenti.
Presented in the section Play Forward, a junction between film, video and other Art forms are ten Italian titles ranging from medium length Features and Shorts which present two works by Olivo Barbieri Sevilla →(∞)06 and Seescape # 1 night, Cina Shenzhen and as a Special event, Dreams and Nightmares, a selections of experimental videos chosen and presented by Bruno di Marino.
Other two special events enhancing the programme of this 60th edition are : Signore & Signore, the retrospective curated by Piera Detassis which pays tribute to the great actresses in Italian cinema organized in collaboration with Cinecittà Holding, and a personal retrospective on artist and animation filmmaker Ursula Ferrara, organized in collaboration with Filmitalia which includes an exhibition of her preliminary drawings and paintings, screenings of her 8 Short animation films reprinted in 35mm thanks to the precious contribution by Technicolor who sponsors this event.
