Italian Cinema at Budapest

Opening November 6, 2007, at the Puskin cinema in Budapest, the 5th Edition of MittelCinemaFest – Central European Festival of Italian Cinema organized by FILMITALIA in collaboration with Budapest Film, presents 10 of the latest Italian film productions along with a retrospective of Mario Monicelli s work. The screenings in Budapest will run through November 15, moving on to Krakow November 21-30, and finally in Bratislava November 28- December 7, 2007.
The programme features The Unknown woman by Giuseppe Tornatore, Night bus by Davide Marengo, My Brother is an only child by Daniele Luchetti, Desert Roses by Mario Monicelli, Salty Air by Alessandro Angelini, Red like the Sky by Cristiano Bortone, Saturno contro by Ferzan Ozpetek, In memory of me by Saverio Costanzo, Ballroom Dancing by Claudio Antonini and Flying Lessons by Francesca Archibugi. The films are presented thanks to the collaborate effort between numerous Italian producers, distributors, Hungarian distributors SPI International Hungary and Budapest Film. Like in past editions, the films will be introduced by directors, actors and screenwriters. Featured among the guests this year and awaited with great anticipation, are Mario Monicelli ( Desert Roses), Davide Marengo (Night Bus), Giorgio Pasotti (Desert Roses, Salty Air) Gianfilippo Corticelli (Saturno Contro) and Paolo Corvino (World Sales Intramovies). All screenings of the contemporary films witth English subtitles and simultaneous Hungarian translations will be held at the Puskin cinema beginning at 8.00 p.m.
The film retrospective dedicated to Mario Monicelli will screen at the Movie Hall of the National Archivi for Hungarian Cinema. The complete festival programme will be announced at a press conference to be held November 5, at 1.30pm at the Italian Cultural Institute, with interventions by Ambassador Paolo Guido Spinelli, Italian Cultural Institute director Arnaldo Dante Marianacci, the director of Night Bus, Davide Marengo and Serena Mazzi, Filmitalia coordinator for the MittelCinemaFest. The event is entirely sponsored by Banco Popolare Hungary.
