The Best of Youth in Berlin, Tunis and Montevideo

After being presented in Brussels and Buenos Aires, “ The Best of Youth” , a film showcase featuring 20 first feature films in contemporary Italian cinema dating from 2000 to today, organized by Filmitalia, moves on to 3 more countries. Starting in Berlin on Sunday, March 2nd, Filmitalia in collaboration with the Italian Culture Institute presents a selection of 9 titles from this showcase which will screen at the Kino Arsenal, historical landmark for film enthusiasts in the German capital. The retrospective will screen through March 31. In Berlin to present the film showcase are Giorgio Colangeli, the leading actor in L’aria salata, opening film, Laura Muscardin, director of the film Giorni, her screenwriter Monica Rametta and Filmitalia’s president, Irene Bignardi. The films presented are as follows: Salty Air, Saimir, The Spectator, Three Steps Dancing, The Years of Our Loves, Saint Maradona, Sailing Home, My Head's Spinning, Days After Berlin, this film showcase moves on to Tunis. Here Filmitalia with MedFilm Festival and thanks to the kind collaboration of the Italian Culture Institute, brings a whole year of contemporary Italian cinema to Tunis, in celebration of the year of Intercultural Dialogue. Twelve titles from the Best of Youth showcase will be screened from March 3-10, L’uomo in più, Santa Maradona, Tornando a casa, Saimir, Velocità Massima, Private. The other six titles will be presented in monthly appointments through December 2007. The inauguration of the week of Italian cinema will feature a special event, the premiere of the film L’abbuffata, with director Mimmo Calopresti and actors Donatella Finocchiaro and Paolo Briguglia in attendance. In conclusion, from March 15-30, 12 debuts from the Best of Youth film showcase will be featured in one of the two monographs dedicated to Italian cinema at the 26th edition of the . International Film Festival of Uruguay.
The event is organized by the Uruguay cinemathéque under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Ministry of Tourism as well as the councillorship of the city of Montevideo. The list of films chosen are : Almost blue, La capagira, Tornando a casa, Giorni, I nostri anni, Sole negli occhi, Pesi leggeri, Il dono, La spettatrice, Tartarughe sul dorso, Private, L’aria salata.
