Matteo Garrone and Paolo Sorrentino, Gomorra and Il divo, will be competing for Italy at the 61st edition of the Cannes Film Festival. Joining them, besides participating in competition, in age (both not yet forty ) and number of films made (for both of them it is their fourth feature film), is Toni Servillo, protagonist of both films. The third member of this young generation is Francesco Munzi with Il resto della notte, chosen for the prestigious Quinzaine des Réalisateurs. If ‘The Best of Youth’ of Italian cinema grows rapidly and with outstanding results, Marco Tullio Giordana confirms himself once more as the beloved auteur of Cannes and International critics.
His new film, Wild Blood, will be presented in the official selection, with Monica Bellucci, Luca Zingaretti ed Alessio Boni.
Daniele Mazzocca, among 22 producers of European cinema, will be representing Italy at the annual workshop.
Adding emphasis to the massive Italian presence on the Croisette is actor, director and screenwriter Sergio Castellitto as a member of the International Jury.
