Fuocoammare by Gianfranco Rosi has won the Golden Bear for Best Film at 66. Berlinale.
The festival jury was presided over by actress Meryl Streep and included actors Clive Owen, Alba Rohrwacher and Lars Eidinger, critic Nick James, photographer Brigitte Lacombe and director Malgorzata Szumowska.
"This is a film that commands our attention and demands action", declared Meryl Streep.
“At this moment I have to think about all the people who did not survive the journey to Lampedusa,” Rosi said upon accepting the prize. “Lampedusa is a generous place. It is a place of fishermen, and fishermen always open their arms to those who come from the sea.”
