The Singapore International Film Festival (SIFF) is the largest and longest-running major film festival in Singapore, and one of the most important in the region. Founded in 1987 by Geoffrey Malone, the Festival has a focus on ground breaking Asian cinema and is committed to the development of a vibrant local film culture. It is known for its dynamic programming and has become an iconic film event in the Singapore arts calendar.
Each year, 200 - 300 feature and short films of all genres are handpicked for the Festival. There is also an awards component, the Silver Screen Awards, which recognises excellence in Asian cinema in two categories - Asian Feature Film Competition and Singapore Short Film Competition. This prestigious 10-day event is a great platform for established as well as aspiring filmmakers to showcase their films to an enthusiastic and varied audience made up of Singaporean and international film buffs.
