The biggest funsubbers community of the World was funded in Italy in 2006 by a teenager whose favourite TV series was suspended by national television. Tired of waiting for the next season to be dubbed and broadcasted, Andrea decided to create an online place where people were free to translate and share subtitles.
Anticipating and facilitating a new perspective in audiovisual contents distribution in Italy, the site soon became a reference for “original versions lovers”, growing far beyond any expectation. Barely legal, the site is constantly under the eye of the authorities.
To keep the pace of over 200 series subbed simultaneously, the community had to adopt a highly hierarchized organization and to impose strict deadlines to the subbers.
The high pressure, combined with the fact that no one gets money inside the community, forces subbers to have a double life: students and regular workers at day, heroes at night.
