Neven, 45 yrs old, a disillusioned intellectual from Germany meets Nina, a 38 yr old photographer from Naples, outisde a museum in Hamburg. Their chance meeting lasts only a few minutes, since she is on her way back to Rome. A month later, Nina's personal life is marked by a traumatic event which is not depicted, but will slowly remind Nina of something..perhaps of her love for Neven. She feels happy and knows that she wishes to see him again. Neven in the meantime has moved to Italy, where he lives in a small town by a lake. Four months after their encounter in Hamburg, Nina goes to see him and suggests they become romantically involved : despite her past sufferings, she feels this relationship will help her come to peace with herself and those around her, allowing her to finally live a life free of pain. In thinking about her future life with Neven, she will come to terms with her non exclusive pain. Freely adapted from two stories by John Berger: "un uomo e una donna accanto a un pruno"-"fogli di carta posti sull'erba"
