A ruthless serial-killer is killing women with an unusual weapon, a metal set square.
A television programme, presented by Laura Melli, avidly follows the case, and spectacularly embroiders the figure of the killer because it is good for the show’s ratings.
The painter, Mirta, an aristocrat in decline, tells an ex-pupil that she is suffering from an incurable disease and wants “help” to die. However, it is her maid Gabriella who ends up murdered (by the serial-killer?)
Otilia, manager of a faded singer, Nicole Cardente, suggests that she create some publicity for herself by pretending to receive death threats from the serial-killer.
However, the singer isn’t murdered, but the manager is. The public prosecutor, Rita Facino, has to face the public impatient to find the assassin, while struggling with her boss’s diffidence towards a woman in a traditionally male profession.
Premio Politano, a complex young man with past problems based in a childhood trauma, is offered up to those looking for ‘a’ culprit, not ‘the’ culprit on the front page of a newspaper. In the midst of these extreme situations, the serial-killer continues undisturbed ..
